About the Artist

Vi Luong was born in Saigon, grew up in north Texas, and currently lives in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. He studied graphic design and art direction at the University of Texas at Austin with a brief immersion into architectural history.Shortly after moving to New York, Luong worked as an advertising art director while pursuing drawing and illustration in his spare time. Always carrying a sketchbook, he chooses pen and ink as his medium for its permanent yet spontaneous quality. Luong’s affinity for architecture finds its way into many of his works. The city and its spaces are unending sources of inspiration. To Luong, capturing each angle in ink requires close observation. Achieving the details on paper is to pay homage to the buildings themselves. Luong’s work has appeared in The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. In 2016, he received a Communication Arts Award of Excellence for illustration.
